Roquette Restaurant and Bar brings a sophisticated dining experience to Whakatane, in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty. Contemporary yet intimate, it balances polish with ease, championing high-quality cuisine and the kind of relaxed, upscale atmosphere that invites lingering conversation.

The menu leans into bright flavours and thoughtful contrasts. Think bruschetta dressed with balsamic tomatoes, smoked salmon, cream cheese and a scatter of fried capers, or toasted ciabatta and pita paired with smoked salmon pâté and garlic and herb butter. Salads feel generous and textural: chargrilled lamb fillets meet blue cheese, walnuts and caramelized pear, while Asian spiced roast duck is lifted with orange, macadamia and cranberries. It is a modern, cosmopolitan plateful, guided by classic technique.

Comfort takes centre stage in the mains. A braised lamb shank settles into kumara mash with minted peas and a glossy lamb jus, while pan fried king salmon is brightened by minted pea puree, crisp potato rosti and the gentle heat of horseradish, finished with crème fraîche and an avocado beurre blanc.

At the bar, a well-chosen selection of wine and international beers sets the tone for pre-dinner aperitifs, nightcaps or casual catch-ups. Book a table, bring good company, and let Roquette do the rest—forks up, spirits high.
